England 1-2 France
Friendly
Wembley Stadium, London, England - Wednesday 17 November 2010

Missing John Terry, Ashley Cole and Wayne Rooney, England took to Wembley to face France in this friendly in their last game of 2010. In only the second minute of play Gerrard took a freekick and forced LLoris to make a save. However, in the 16th minute, after the French had tested Ben Foster, Benzema and Malouda exchanged passes, with the former beating Foster to give his side an early lead.

Into the second half and the 55th minute, Sagna made a run down the right wing crossing the ball into the box but Nasri missed, however Valbuena was behind him and he extended France's lead. Eight minutes later Steven Gerrard's header from a freekick agonisingly hit the crossbar. England were so close to pulling a goal back. It was Gerrard in the 80th minute who came close again to getting England back in the game, however his follow-up went wide of the goal. Moments later Nasri went close to taking France's tally to three but his shot his the post.

James Milner had his first taste of being skipper, when he was handed the captain's armband on 85 minutes, following the departure of Steven Gerrard. With four minutes remaining on the clock Peter Crouch was at the back post, and with his first touch of the game scored a consolation goal for the home side. This was Capello's first home defeat. England now have a break from action until February.
