This was a comfortable win for England, who were without Gareth Barry (suspended) and Rio Ferdinand (calf injury). No disrespect to the opposition who are part-timers, and are ranked 198th in FIFA's World Rankings, while England have recently moved up to 6th place. England took another step closer to the World Cup Finals next summer with this win.
England were quick to get on the scoresheet tonight when Glen Johnson sent in a cross to Rooney, who headed the ball into Andorra's net. With efforts from Crouch and Gerrard failing to add to England's tally, Lampard connected with Walcott's cross from the right to give England a two goal lead in the 29th minute. Rooney, on the volley from Johnson, put England in a comfortable lead going into the changing room at half-time, increasing England's score to three. With this goal from Rooney, the Manchester United forward is now level on goals scored for England with Sir Geoff Hurst (24 goals), and has also equalled Gary Lineker's record 10 England goals scored in one season.
With the homeside having a commanding lead at the interval, Capello replaced Rooney and Gerrard with Defoe and Young. There was a lengthy wait before England added more goals. Substitute Defoe made his mark on the game when he headed home a cross from Johnson in the 73rd minute, and then three minutes later he added a second, and England's fifth, when he seized on an opportunity when Alvarez dropped David Beckham's free-kick.
The game and England's season wrapped up with a goal from Crouch in the 81st minute. Despite the travel headache for fans attending the game due to a tube strike, they will have been pleased with England's biggest win since 1999 when the team beat Luxembourg by the same scoreline. Now, on to a well deserved break for the England team and back to business in August when they face much tougher competition in Holland in a friendly.
